PURPOSE:To stop the moving means at the initial position without causing impact, by decreasing the moving force of the reciprocal moving means for image exposure scanning depending on the signal generated before the end of reciprocal movement. CONSTITUTION:A scanning exposure device composed of light source 16, optical system 17, magnet 15, etc. advances through a forward clutch which is turned on by an optical system forward S6, and the original image on an original platen 14 is scanned and exposed. When a reverse clutch is turned on by an optical system signal S7 by the set output of FFQ7, the scanning exposure device begins to return to the initial position. When the magnet 15 is detected by a switch 48 which is set in the back-home position, the back-home position signal BHP outputted by the switch 48 resets the FFQ7 through AND gate Q10 and OR gate Q11, and the signal Q7 is eliminated, so that the reverse clutch is turned off. Thereafter, the scanning exposure device moves by inertia, and stops at the initial position without causing impact.
